Food Preservation And Food Storage

Food preservation and Food Storage is an integral part of civilizations’ survival tactics in times of famine and other natural disasters. Instead of panicking and trying to set things in motion at that point of time, it is always better to have enough amount of food storage as a buffer to fall back on.
Extra food can be stored at homes in freezers and pantries to help tide over family emergencies like sickness, inability to cook, financial setbacks etc. And in some homes, freezers are almost the size of a small room, so enough food to last a month also can be stored!!
In times of state or national calamities like famine, floods, other natural disasters, if enough food has been preserved and stored under hygienic conditions, thousands of people can be helped very easily.
Some of the traditional and modern methods of food preservation are pickling in brine, preserving in jelly form by crystallizing the sugar solution, freeze-drying, pressure-drying, irradiating with high pressured jets of different kinds of rays, burying food under the ground under specific heat conditions or intense cold conditions where temperatures under the ground freezes the food, thereby preserving it, treating food with friendly bacteria, dehydrating the food grains etc.
